Citigroup is playing politics as it tries to promote the downfall of fossil fuels due to unwarranted fears of catastrophic global warming due to increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide. With present technology, renewables are not competitive with coal or natural gas because of their low capacity factors. Coal is not mentioned in this article.
China and India have plans for huge expansions of electric power generation using coal. Their output in Megawatt-hours will dwarf any increase due to renewables.

Your information is sadly a bit out of date. Like a couple of years.
In most cases, if no subsidies are given to any of the generation, renewables win. If you compare old generation vs new, its bad comparison.
China already is choking from coal. Its healthcare costs are much higher than expected directly related to burning coal. That is not even global warming effect, just pollution.
