Brussels Panel Discussion

“EU ETS Modernisation Fund: enabling the transition in all Member States”

Hosted by Energy Post and sponsored by PGE

Date: 28 June, 2019 Brussels, 16.00 – Location: Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the EU, Avenue de Cortenbergh 16, Brussels 1000

Background

How can EU Member States with the lowest GDP per capita achieve the level of decarbonisation (in the power sector) necessary to underpin the EU’s commitment to the Paris Agreement? The EU ETS Modernisation Fund is a key tool designed to help achieve a practical transition to a sustainable energy system in these regions.

At this Energy Post panel discussion we will highlight the role of the EU ETS Modernisation Fund in allowing the EU member states with the lowest GDP per capita to develop their share of renewable power. The discussion is sponsored by PGE Poland – a key actor in one of the largest member states which stand to benefit under fully transparent procedures.

For Energy Post’s influential audience this is an opportunity to understand the rationale behind the fund, how it is designed to support a greater share of RES in the context of the unique challenges of the affected region and the implications to existing and future infrastructure.

Questions to be discussed:

  • What are the common challenges/priorities for RES development across the respective regions?
  • What types of projects are preferred/envisaged?
  • How will networks need to adapt to accommodate increased renewable generation?
